He was meant to be our spiritual guide but instead, he groomed us!

Photo Credit : Artificial Intelligence (AI)   It was started on an undertone- one of curiosity, featuring a strange, close camaraderie between a teacher and girls, who once had been his mentees and had been bestowed with a title of a mentor, Christian Union patron and even a History & German teacher. No one was willing to believe that. By no means was it fathomable, at Alliance Girls, a school of excellent academic record and a fierce morality. However, an alumna like Christine Mungai paid more attention. Being a journalist with a 15-year experience in the industry, she tracked the pattern; intense emotional bonds that morphed into grooming. Five former students disclosed themselves-two of which remembered having a non-consensual physical contact when still in school. Another one involved a kiss, which was forced, a few weeks after graduation. There are more similar stories; girls suffering in Peter Ayiro’s period of influence- trepidation in line with sexual abuse over th...

Giving Women their Flowers: A Precursor of International Women's Day

As the world gets ready to commemorate the International Women's Day, what comes into your    mind?  Just try brainstorming and  you'll see there are a lot of things to laud women for.

History takes us down the memory lane, on women who paved way for later generations. The instances of Marie Curie, the trailblazing physicist who broke the glass ceiling in science, Malala Yousafzai, an activist of the girl child education amidst Taliban terrorism, Nobel Laureate Wangari Maathai, an environmentalist   honoured for her passion towards trees, mitigating   negative impacts of climate change and environmental conservation, and so on, the list is endless. Their   bravery,  persistence, unshakeable determination motivates us to aim high and confront the established quo.

Let's give women their flowers, as they are pretty much deserving of them. Let's give flowers to the women in our lives, whether it is by deeds of generosity, expressions of thanks or rendering support to enterprises and companies run by women; when they are still alive. What is the essence of eulogizing women in pomp and glory whereas when they were alive no one, absolutely no one recognized them? For those that we bid farewell, hoping to meet them in heaven, their memories are forever embedded in our thoughts and hearts, as we place a wreath to their glory.

Empowering women in STEM is something to take note of. Women have frequently had to battle twice as hard for recognition and respect in the male- dominated disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Nevertheless, in spite of these challenges, women like Ada Lovelace, Rosalind Franklin and Katherine Johnson have made ground-breaking discoveries that have fundamentally changed how we see the world. A more varied and inclusive future is being paved by efforts that encourage more girl and women to seek job openings in STEM.

Moreover, we can plot a route towards, women rights and advocacy. Although the fight for gender equality is far from ended, a great deal of progress has been made as a result of rights activists. Women all throughout the world are still fighting for their civil liberties, from the suffragettes who battled for the right to vote to the #MeToo movement demanding an end to sexual harassment and assault especially in the workplaces.

Skip the fatigue, let's continue energizing your thoughts. Delving into  honouring diversity, women are diverse individuals with a range of experiences, viewpoints and challenges. We ought to remember to recognize the diversity of women on International women's day, including those with varying racial and ethnic backgrounds, abilities, and sexual orientations. Our communities are strengthened and our commitment as a group is strengthened by this diversification.

Who are the most caregivers in our societies? This is more of rhetoric, since the answer is right here with us. Women have been playing the role of caregivers since the beginning of time. Whether as a mother, a nurse or a caregiver, a woman frequently plays the role of a caregiver behind every successful person. We have the deepest respect and appreciation for their altruism, kindness, and unrelenting dedication to the welfare of others.

Ahem ahem. The subject of single mothers and honoring them. Most single mothers have been admonished as they face the difficulties of parenting children on their own, single mothers exemplify the qualities of fortitude, resiliency, and unconditional love. We should pause to honor their bravery and steadfast devotion to their families, as single motherhood has never been a crime, engendered by various circumstances.

How can we not talk about breaking the glass ceiling? Women still face obstacles to equitable representation and promotion in boardrooms and executive suites across the globe. But as more women breakthrough the glass ceiling and become leaders, for instance, the corporate environment in USA is gradually but readily improving.

Dear reader, I am pretty aware that you had began asking yourself where the slant of Menstrual Hygiene Management has been placed. You can now heave a sigh of relief. Although many cultures still view menstruation as a taboo subject, it is a natural phenomenon and aspect of life. Education, and the availability of menstrual hygiene products such as reusable and disposable sanitary pads, menstrual cups and tampons can enable women and girls to handle their confidence and dignity, more of a rationale to celebrate these strong personalities.

Hidden heroes ought to be acknowledged. Many women quietly contribute to their communities and industries despite being shrouded under the spotlights. Whether, it is via activism especially the most recent ones against femicide, both small and big business ventures, agricultural economy, or volunteer labor, these hidden heroes merit our respect and gratitude.

As we get ready for the impending International Women's Day, let us not only commemorate the accomplishments, tenacity and contributions of women everywhere, but also renew our dedication to creating a more just and inclusive world for coming generations. When we empower women, we elevate a whole society.
